The famous dot on the horizon has been found!
In a world that is changing rapidly, I have decided to take a new course. My moral compass and practical considerations have led me to a transition away from Micro$oft products and to Nextcloud, an open-source content collaboration platform that is European, sustainable and innovative. In this blog post I share my experiences and vision for the future, in which I will focus on implementing Nextcloud for companies and institutions. Such a change of course does not happen overnight, after all, there must be enough bread on the shelf.
A change of course motivated by moral and practical considerations
The coming economic downturn in the US and the changing world order have made me think about how I earn my income. Micro$Oft products, although widespread and powerful, no longer fit my vision of a sustainable and ethical future. In addition, I think that Europe will want to be less dependent on American products and that these products will become considerably more expensive. As a result, the price-quality ratio of the American products will no longer be so clear in favor of Micro$oft fall out. This realization has led me to look for alternatives that better match my values and the needs of a changing world.
Can and do I still want to earn my money with Micro$oft products?
Discovering Nextcloud: A reliable alternative
During my search for alternatives, I stumbled upon Nextcloud, an open-source platform that focuses on content collaboration. With more than 400,000 deployments worldwide, from small installations on a Raspberry Pi to large, globally distributed systems, Nextcloud offers a scalable and secure solution for both small and large organizations. The ability to maintain full control over your data and the flexibility to adapt the platform to specific needs make Nextcloud an attractive alternative to Micro$oft 365.
Economically and morally Nextcloud wins over Micro$oft
My new course: Nextcloud implementations
Now that I have found my new course, I will fully focus on implementing Nextcloud for companies and institutions. My goal is to help others make the same transition I've gone through, but without the challenges and setbacks I've faced. By sharing my expertise and experience, I hope to contribute to a future in which open-source technologies play a central role in promoting digital sovereignty and sustainability.
I'm going to help organizations transition, but without the aches and pains I've gone through.
Collaboration and networking in the Nextcloud community
I am convinced that collaboration and knowledge sharing are crucial for success. That's why I'm looking for contacts. Developers, implementers, hosters, resellers, users.... Contact me! Together we can share our experiences and insights, develop innovative solutions and contribute to the growth and development of Nextcloud.
Do you work with Nextcloud? As a developer, implementer, hoster, reseller or user? I would love to get in touch with you
Conclusion: A future with Nextcloud
My journey to Nextcloud has only just begun, but I feel strong in my choice to take this new course. With a clear vision and a drive to help others, I look forward to the possibilities that the future offers us. Together we can build a sustainable and ethical future, based on open-source technologies and the power of collaboration. In addition, there are also economic motives that have made me decide to make this transition.
I still have a long way to go, but it is now concretely clear to me where my heart lies
Good to read, Henro! Your clear vision and your choice for Nextcloud perfectly match the growing need for digital independence and sustainability. Your timing is strongly chosen, especially given the economic and geopolitical developments. A tip: consider a step-by-step approach with migration pathways and integrations that make it easier for organisations to get over the line ...
